It's been a little while since we last spoke - I apologize - but in that time there has been a number of developments at Cirque du Soleil: the closings of shows, the announcements of new shows, some layoffs, and new musical albums for fans to enjoy. However, we sadly must announce the passing of Dominique Lemieux, Costume Designer for many of Cirque du Soleil's iconic productions. The announcement of her passing was made on November 27, 2024. On many of Cirque du Soleil's social media accounts, the following was posted: " Dominique Lemieux was a visionary artist whose creativity knew no bounds. Today, we celebrate her extraordinary legacy as the costume designer for Nouvelle Expérience (1990), Saltimbanco (1992), Mystère (1993), Alegría (1994), Quidam (1996), “O”, La Nouba (1998), Corteo (2005), ZAIA (2008), Banana Shpeel (2009), Sep7imo Dia–No Descansaré (2017), and her enchanting reimagining of Alegría (2019)." She was 67 years old. * * * FIRST, THE BAD NEWS * * * Probably one of the biggest things to come out of Cirque du Soleil since we last spoke was the quiet closure of SongBlazers, the company's "Journey into Country Music" on November 5th. While no official reason has yet to be provided (Cirque itself only posted "Our journey has come to an end" on the SongBlazer's webpage before taking it completely offline shortly thereafter), one article I saw online said the closure was due to "logistical reasons." Ultimately, what it came down to was ticket sales. They just weren't as robust as either Cirque itself or Universal Music (their partners in this endeavor) would have liked. Keen-eyed fans also noticed that Messi10 was also quietly pulled from Cirque du Soleil's website without any fanfare. It's last performance, apparently, was August 11th in Lima, Peru. On November 22nd, a memo was distributed to all employees of Cirque du Soleil outlining "a number of initiatives" that would consolidate Cirque's achievements over the last three years, and "solidify" their foundations. It, of course, meant saying goodbye to some of the employees there... At the beginning of 2025, the Blue Man Group show in New York (which has been running for 34 years) and the Blue Man Group show in Chicago (which has been running for 27 years) will close. The memo suggests demand for tickets for these two shows has softened to a point they're no longer profitable. At IHQ and offices in Las Vegas, a number of positions were eliminated or consolidated. And in Las Vegas itself, Cirque announced the closure of the fabrication and costume workshops that were launched there following the pandemic in order to help get the Vegas shows up and running again. These workshops were also used to launch "Mad Apple" last year, and have been used to help launch "'Auana" and other VSTAR shows. According to Cirque, these workshops are no longer needed, and the positions can revert back to their individual shows. Meaning: things go back to the way they were pre-pandemic. However, we've heard that "'Auana" has gone way over budget, so these cuts track. And, on November 25th, the cast of BAZZAR was told that their final performance would be sometime in January 2025, as apparently ticket sales for the show are very soft in Gran Canaria. Naturally fans began to do a little soul searching with regards to these sudden closures, asking if anyone felt that Cirque was a bit aimless - a whirlwind of shows, one fan put it - that nothing the company produced (recently) had any longevity, and why that might be so. Any answer is going to be a complicated one, because there is no single right answer - it's a combination of a lot of factors: from over-expanding its show count to launching shows in markets based on poor market studies, to needing more return on investment for its partners (first Nakheel, then TPG/Fosun/Caisse, and now Catalyst Capital/Shenkman Capital/Providence Equity’s Benefit Street Partners/CBAM), and, of course, other factors outside of Cirque’s control. (Cirque was stretched financially well before Covid, so while Covid was quite a disruptive force, sending the company into bankruptcy, it was teetering well before then.) Ramping up production of shows and launching them during the global recession of 2008/2009 did not help. When Cirque focused on launching 3 or more shows a year, the harder it became to make each show unique acrobatically, and strong thematically. Cirque went from having one team come together to create a brand-new spectacle every couple of years, to multiple creative teams churning out several shows at the same time. Time, budget, talent, oversight, creativity, and energy had to be shared across several concepts rather than nurturing just one. When you stretch yourself like that it’s just untenable, regardless of the number of creatives you might employ – someone’s got to wrangle the kittens. To me, though, the moment the company became more “entertainment” than “circus arts” is when things turned. When it became more about putting as many concepts into as many performance spaces as they could, that’s when it became less mysterious avant-garde circus and strictly entertainment for entertainment’s sake. And Cirque lost a bit of its soul in doing that. This isn’t a knock on any creative or artist or tradespeople who have given their all to see these productions to fruition... it’s just I feel the company was so preoccupied with whether or not they COULD do a thing, they didn’t stop to think whether they SHOULD do that thing. Songblazers comes to mind, Bazzar comes to mind, R.U.N., Zarkana, Viva Elvis, Axel, BELIEVE, and of course, Banana Shpeel. But if there's one take-away here it's this: despite the "failures", Cirque du Soleil should never stop innovating and never stop experimenting, for that's how Cirque du Soleil came to be in the first place. My advice would be to ask whether it makes artistic sense for Cirque du Soleil as a brand to do a thing; to proceed not because you can, but because you should. Not everything needs to be "though the lens of Cirque du Soleil" just because the money is right. Yes, Cirque du Soleil needs to be profitable, and I understand that's a fine line to walk when you're in need of profits and/or being pressured to financially perform. But there has to be some kind of brand integrity, does there not? Otherwise, you lose what made you THE Cirque du Soleil in the first place. * * * AND NOW THE GOOD! * * * Cirque du Soleil may have quietly closed SONGBLAZERS and MESSI10, and semi-announced the early closure of BAZZAR now in Gran Canaria, it also announced two new shows for 2025! On Saturday, November 16th, Vidanta World announced LUDÕ - a spectacular water-themed dinner show, blending gourmet dining, world-class artistry, and innovative scenography, housed in a custom-built theater at the heart of VidantaWorld Nuevo Vallarta’s BON Beauty of Nature Luxury Theme Park. LUDÕ uses water as both inspiration and performance medium, with artists creating breathtaking underwater imagery that mirrors the gravity-defying feats on stage. The name LUDÕ originates from Latin, meaning "I play," capturing the playful essence of both the narrative and the immersive experience. The diacritic 'Õ' mirrors the boundless, flowing nature of water, symbolizing the emotional and physical currents that carry the story. This show embodies the fluidity and freedom found in dreams—where time slows, gravity fades, and possibilities become limitless. LUDÕ will debut in November 2025 in Nuevo Nayarit-Vallarta, Mexico and runs for 75 minutes without an intermission. Learn more about this show within, as we share the full press release. A few days later, Cirque du Soleil announced ALIZÉ, its first European resident show, which is scheduled to open in November 2025 at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. Keen-eyed Cirque du Soleil fans will recall this is the same location that NYSA was scheduled to open at when that show was announced for Berlin back in 2019, before that show was sadly canceled due to the one-two punch of the COVID Pandemic and Cirque's bankruptcy. Although we're told ALIZÉ is NOT NYSA reborn, that remains to be seen. ALIZÉ depicts a journey into the unseen with a mix of groundbreaking artistry and breathtaking magic, embedded in an adventure that pushes the boundaries of the imagination. Tickets for the new production, presented and co-produced by Live Nation, are now on sale at: berlin.cirquedusoleil.de. The full press release regarding ALIZÉ is also within. In addition to the two new shows, two new musical albums were also released since we last spoke! On November 15, 2024, Cirque du Soleil announced the soundtrack release to ECHO. Featuring 15 eclectic show tracks inspired by a mix of pop, electronic, vocal, and classical stylings, the music of ECHO defies any single genre. It is uniquely layered with depth and textures inspired by our relationship to the natural world. As Band Leader, Michael Lieberman describes it, “Our most natural instrument is the human voice, and so it makes sense conceptually to use vocals to establish a symbiotic relationship between humanity and the environment.” This is followed closely by strings and percussion, which represent the sounds, rhythms, and beating heart of nature. And on the heels of ECHO's release, on December 6, 2024, Cirque du Soleil released "40 Years Under the Sun: The Best of Cirque du Soleil", a compilation album celebrated the company's 40th Anniversary, which it celebrated earlier this year. This album, which features 18 cuts from across its vast musical catalog, is a long one... running 83 minutes and 15 seconds, and while it does sample every era of Cirque's shows, there's quite a bit missing. Both releases are through the new Cirque/BMG alliance, and were released digitally. There does not appear to be a catalog number, UPC, EIN, or liner notes within the package, although Cirque did release some notes for the ECHO album, which we'll share, as we briefly get into both albums within. And there’s more. Artistic swimmer Bill May, who was awarded a gold medal in the 2015 FINA World Championships, has been trying to compete in the Olympic Games since 2020 when he was part of a movement to get the Olympics to qualify men in the artistic swimming category. This year, for the Paris Olympic Games, men are eligible to compete for the first time in the team and duet events, and May qualified for the squad—yay, finally!—but then, he was told no. “I was on the squad that qualified and then they cut it down to eight, and I got cut, so now I’m going as an athlete representative from World Aquatics, which is the governing body of all aquatic sports,” May told Parade in this exclusive interview. While happy in his role, May says, “It’s difficult because it’s not something that I always felt like my life was going to be incomplete had I not gone to the Olympics, but for the very first time to allow men to compete at the Olympic games and the coaches didn’t have the courage to put a man on the team…” It isn’t just the U.S. team that made the decision to still exclude men, but also Italy and China, all countries that do have male World Champions. May earned his gold medal in 2015 with Christina Jones for Mixed Duet Technical. “They can’t say, ‘The man didn’t fit, or the man wasn’t good enough’,” May continues. “It wasn’t this. But to be supported by the Olympic committee, to be supported by World Aquatics, they know that the future of the sport relies on this, and that’s where I feel we failed the evolution of the sport.” That said, May, who is the head coach for the Santa Clara [Calif.] artistic swimming team, still gets to go to Paris. He says, “I still love what I do and feel so much support from everyone, so life goes on.” May was introduced to Parade not because of his Olympic story, which happens to be timely, but because of his role in the documentary Cirque du Soleil: Without a Net, currently streaming on Prime Video, the story of how the company, which had to shut down all 44 of its shows during the COVID pandemic, rebooted their flagship production O, in which May was an artistic swimmer. Filmmaker Dawn Porter captures the dramatic journey of the world’s most famous circus act on its way back from the brink and May shared his experiences. How did you come to join Cirque du Soleil? In 2000, they tried to put men into the Olympic games, but the timing was off, and it just didn’t go. I kept swimming, kept competing. I would compete at open competitions, which were any competition that a country hosted itself, so I went to the Swiss Open, the French Open, the German Open, the Rome Open. These were competitions that were not sanctioned by World Aquatics, which is the governing body of all aquatic sports. So, because they didn’t have to follow their rules, they could allow men to compete openly. Then in 2004, I helped coach the Olympic team, and then after the Olympics I joined Cirque du Soleil right away, and I was there until the end of, well, technically ‘22, but ‘21. And then in 2015, while I was still at Cirque, World Aquatics voted to allow men to compete in the mixed duet, which is duet of a man and woman at the world championships. So, I came out of retirement. My partner and I became the first-ever world champions in the mixed duet. I was retired from the sport, so I was very happy with my career. Everyone has something that they didn’t do in the sport, but I retired to join Cirque du Soleil. There were plenty of things that maybe I could say that I never did, however, there’s also more things that I could say I did get to do that this sport gave me. So, I didn’t have any regrets, I didn’t have any feeling of being wronged or left out. The great thing about Cirque du Soleil is it gives athletes and performers and talented people an opportunity to continue to do what they love and make a career out of it. With a lot of sports, you’re working multiple jobs and you’re trying to get funding the whole time, so [Cirque] takes that pressure off of you. To do something where you’re paid to do what you love for thousands of people per night, it’s an opportunity that it’s almost incomparable to that one competition that I couldn’t go to. The film is interesting because it’s about the comeback of O following COVID and we see a little bit of how people survived. When you had to come back, were you in shape? Had you kept swimming? They had a meeting and they said, “Okay, we’re done. They’re closing the show on Sunday night and that’ll be our last show.” “I was like, “Oh, man.” But I was teaching core classes, like fitness classes at O. So right when that happened, all the people that were doing it said, “Hey, let’s just do it,” so I started doing it. And because we were off, I was doing it every day, even twice a day on Sundays for the first few weeks, and then it just got more and more serious. Obviously, we knew we weren’t going to open anytime soon, so I taught core classes seven days a week. I had a lot of people, there were times when I had over 100 people in my core class, and that was the crazy thing about Zoom. It brought people together from all over the world and still allowed us to connect with each other. And then I also swam. We swam out at the lake. I had some swim buddies and we would go out, it was a national park so we couldn’t drive our car in there, so we had to park outside and then ride our bikes in and then we would swim together. And then I would teach later in the afternoon. I would go over my routine thinking, “Okay, next week if it starts back up I need to be ready.” So, every day I would stretch and I would work on my flexibility and go over my routines. And then, what was it, 14, 18 months later, we didn’t open until then. So, it was a long stint, but it was crazy. When it came back, it was so exciting to go back and see everyone. They’re essentially your family because you’re trusting them every night. Your family’s expecting for these people to allow you to come home that night, so you have to put so much trust in your castmates that it’s almost more than family. These people are in control of your life sometimes, so it was crazy. How hard did that make it for you to leave Cirque du Soleil and take the coaching job in Santa Clara? It was such a sad-happy moment in my life because I was doing something that I really wanted to do. The timing was off. It was like a death in my life because I didn’t want to leave. I never wanted to leave Cirque du Soleil. If you had asked me how I would spend the rest of my life, I would have said I’m going to be at O, thinking they wouldn’t kick me out, maybe they would, but I was going to be there forever and ever and ever. There’s nothing that you couldn’t like about it. I love to swim. I swam every single day. I still swim every single day. I would sometimes stare up at the lights in this one specific part of the show, and not to sound cliché, but I would just say, “Okay, I’m here and there’s 2,000 people out there that are just giving of themselves, paying a lot of money to come and see us. They’re stepping out of their daily life and maybe problems or troubles, to forget everything and to be part of this magical world that only lasts for a few hours and then they have to go back to their realities, and sometimes their reality isn’t as positive.” So, they’re asking us for a gift, so to be able to do that, it was such an incredibly difficult thing for me to leave and know that I’ll never be able to go back. Never? I would never say never because, obviously, I went back and I tried out for the Olympics at 44 years old, but now I love my life as the head coach of this club and I know this is where I’ll probably be for the rest of my life. Again, it would have been nice to be at Cirque the rest of my life as well as do this for the rest of my life. So, if I could have had a parallel universe, one, I would be at Cirque du Soleil and one I would be the head coach of the Santa Clara Artistic Swimming Club. Do you think of coaching as passing on your love of the sport to the next generation? Who knows, one of your team might end up in O. I hope so, because it really is that next step. Not everyone needs to go to the Olympics, or they don’t even need to dream of going to the Olympics, but to say that they’re path is in the sport, they know what they want to do and they know what’s going to make them happy. That is something, if Cirque du Soleil is what makes them happy, that would make me unbelievably happy because it gave me so much joy in my life. So, I would love that. Have a great time in Paris. What does an athlete’s representative do? I’m going as an ambassador. So I will be with the judges, I’ll communicate with the athletes, and I will just promote the sport and interact with anybody that needs anything. I can consult on different rules and stuff. After the Olympics, they’re going to change some of the rules so we’ll probably have some meetings for that. That’s probably be about it, and then I’ll go to some meet and greets. { SOURCE: Parade Magazine } ---------------------------------------------------------- Cirque Blazes a Path Through Country Music’s History {Aug.09.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- As an institution of spectacle, Cirque du Soleil has become a beacon of artistic distinction. Their recent production, Songblazers, shows the traveling circus giving reverence to the legends and legacy of country music. Writer and director Amy Tinkham dove deeper into the annals of the genre than most paying their respects to its titans. Songblazers does as its name suggests, blazing a path from country’s earliest days in 1867 to its current global reach. “Telling the truth and telling the story is the beautiful part of country music,” Tinkham said in a press release. “That’s what Songblazers is about.” Imagine, then, the surprise of a rising South Austin country star when she got the call that she would be an integral part of bringing Tinkham’s vision to fruition. “I was in the car with my dad after being in the recording studio when I got the email,” 19-year-old Allora Leonard told the Chronicle. “I’m pretty sure he and I both screamed! I’ve auditioned and tried out for so many different opportunities before this and had gotten very used to hearing no. It had been my dream as a little girl to one day perform at this magnitude, and I was in utter shock that I reached that milestone.” Paying homage to the legends is second nature to the singer, who gained notoriety for her renditions of classics from the likes of Etta James (“At Last”) and George Strait (“It Ain’t Cool to Be Crazy About You”). Music has been a fervent passion of Leonard’s since she was 14 and had the opportunity to visit the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for her birthday: “It was right then that I knew music was my calling.” It’s a calling that led her to this very moment performing on one of the world’s most revered stages, creativity set loose and voice set free. “Cirque is so similar, yet different from other things that I’ve done,” she said. “I grew up competing in rodeo and other equine events from a very young age, which required a lot of training and discipline similar to the performers in Cirque. While there’s definitely a lot of rehearsals and staging that go into Songblazers, it’s such a family- like atmosphere and is very creatively stimulating. All ideas are welcome and appreciated.” In Songblazers, Leonard plays Ranch Girl/Willow, a role she’s not unfamiliar with. “This is such a fun part to play,” she said, “because I see so much of myself in it. I’m literally a ranch girl and have spent most of my life in the saddle [rather] than on foot. Not only that, but I love getting to try my hand at stunts, dancing, and acrobatics knowing that I had never really done it before. I also get to sing so many of the songs I grew up on, and I love seeing some of the audience sing it back to me.” The combination of being surrounded by a cast of like-spirited performers and singing songs so close to her heart does often open cracks in the spirit when pulled away from loved ones. However, Leonard takes the feelings in stride, particularly because the Austin show opening on Aug. 14 will bring her near the family and friends she misses. Leonard relishes the opportunity to tell a story deeper than the music itself. “Although this show is most certainly a celebration of country music, it’s also a story of friendship and how it grows and changes over time,” she said. “It is truly beautiful to witness, and I know it’s something the audience will be able to relate to. “It’s an honor getting to share the stage with such talented people. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I’m most definitely enjoying the ride.” Oh, and one more piece of advice before you come to the show: “Look out for the chicken!” { SOURCE: Austin Chronicle } ---------------------------------------------------------- Why companies from Cirque to Esquire are launching perfume {Aug.14.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- When Hanan Malul, CEO of the fragrance brand Michael Malul, was approached by the licensing team of Esquire about making a fragrance, he was unsure how to translate the legendary men’s magazine into scent. “When I looked at it, I thought, ‘Yeah, Esquire is a great magazine, but how do we do it?’” he said. “The most important thing to me when it comes to licensing is to make sure we’re actually leveraging each other, rather than slapping a logo on a bottle.” This summer, that conversation resulted in the launch of four fragrances from Esquire and Michael Malul with names like New Journalist and Editor in Chief, drawing upon Esquire’s editorial gravitas. Malul said he expects the collection, currently available online for $120 a bottle through his brand’s Amazon storefront and Nordstrom, to command $3 million to $5 million in sales by the end of the year. “The goal here is to build a brand, to create demand and to have credibility for the products,” said Malul. While it’s de rigueur for high-profile celebrities and luxury fashion houses to extend their brand into perfume, an increasingly diverse set of companies and figures are making their mark in fragrance this year. And those launches aren’t just limited to names with an established connection to fashion or grooming, like Esquire. Cirque du Soleil, the Quebecois entertainment company known for its elaborate Las Vegas shows, launched its first fragrance this spring. Crypto exchange platform Binance created a perfume in March in a bid to attract women to cryptocurrency. Auntie Anne’s, the ubiquitous mall pretzel franchise, announced its first fragrance, Knead, last week. KFC has a barbecue-inspired fragrance. Tennessee Titans player Will Levis and condiments company Hellman’s are releasing a mayonnaise- inflected fragrance. Anonymous celebrity gossip Instagram account Deuxmoi has a fragrance, too. These launches speak to fragrance’s growing power as both a revenue stream and a marketing tool. According to data analyst firm Circana, fragrance represents the fastest-growing prestige beauty category this year thus far, with dollar sales up 12% in the first half of 2024 versus the same period in 2023. But they are also a response to an evolving perfume audience that is hungry for more offbeat fragrances — should those launches pass muster with their discerning noses, that is. “Ten years ago, if Cirque du Soleil had put out a perfume, people would have laughed and joked about it. And now, people are much more open to this,” said perfumer Maxwell Williams, founder of UFO Parfums and board member of the Institute for Art and Olfaction. Williams, who has created fragrances for the likes of media company Dirt under their UFO Parfums line, believes companies need to know their fragrance goals before reaching out to a potential partner. “A fine fragrance, a beautiful perfume, requires investment,” Williams said, citing $25,000 as roughly the minimum buy-in to launch a run of bottles intended for sale. “It’s difficult for a lot of marketing people to conceptualize that investment and the return on it — and whether it’s strictly a marketing gambit and you’re not going to make money on it, or you’re hoping to actually sell bottles at a larger quantity and make it a part of the revenue stream.” For Cirque du Soleil, the launch of its first perfume was firmly in the latter category. “[Perfume] is an aspirational category, and there is a lot of allure and prestige that goes along with it,” said Isaac Lekach, co-founder of Flower Shop, the fragrance developer behind the Cirque du Soleil scent. Working with the Cirque du Soleil licensing team, Lekach envisioned a product with integrity that would appeal to perfume fans. The resulting $195 bottle was inspired by art deco and Schiaparelli designs in a nod to the circus’s surrealist atmosphere, with the scent itself featuring notes of buttered popcorn and freesia, created by Firmenich perfumer Alexis Grugeon. Lekach is well-versed in the fragrance licensing business, having helped launch fragrances for the likes of Paris Hilton and Katy Perry. But how consumers are accessing fragrance means it’s no longer just A- list celebrities seeing the potential in perfume. “The difference now is that, because direct-to-consumer is a viable avenue for this, you have a bunch of new startups — whether it’s brands starting from scratch, or celebrities or influencers — dipping their toe in it,” he said. “They’re able to explore because the barrier to entry isn’t so great.” Developing a brand through a traditional licensing model allows Cirque du Soleil to build long-term inroads into fragrance, with plans for further launches down the line, Lekach said. But co-branded perfume collaborations are increasingly common, as well, allowing outside companies to tap into an existing perfume brand rather than establish their own credibility and audience in the space. Josh Meyer, co-founder and perfumer for Portland, Oregon-based niche perfume house Imaginary Authors, was contacted in 2023 by Absolut and Kahlúa to create an espresso martini perfume, capitalizing on that year’s cocktail craze. Meyer had previously worked with fellow Oregon- based ice cream maker Salt & Straw to develop a waffle cone-inspired fragrance, but the alcohol giants represented a new feat; both brands are owned by Pernod Ricard, which drew €12.14 billion ($13.3 billion) in revenue in 2023. “It was very, very specifically a marketing tactic. They just thought, ‘We’re gonna spend a million dollars, or whatever it is, and make this perfume and advertise it everywhere,’” said Meyer. But Meyer wanted it to be a serious perfume that his audience could get their hands on, not just a quick run of 100 bottles. The resulting fragrance, Blend No. 83, was turned around in roughly three months to launch in November, in time for the holiday season. “I don’t want it to be a joke,” said Meyer of his company’s fragrance launches. “I want you to smell it and love it.” There is precedent for offbeat, collaborative perfumes that are beloved by the fragrance community in their own right. UFO’s Williams cited Comme des Garçons’ perfume series with travel and culture magazine Monocle first launched with 2008’s Hinoki, a gold standard in the category. Le Labo’s 2010 launch Another 13, created with Another magazine, is now a mainstay in the Le Labo line and has spurred countless dupes. More recently, indie perfumer Marissa Zappas launched the 2021 cult classic Annabel’s Birthday Cake with astrologer Annabel Gat. Merch itself, fragrance or otherwise, is not a new concept for media companies and magazines like Monocle and Another. Esquire editor-in- chief Michael Sebastian cited an Esquire-branded record with songs from the likes of jazz legend Louis Armstrong as an early example of magazine merch — it was included in an issue in the 1940s. “The editors in 1940-whatever were thinking the way that we’re thinking right now, which is, ‘Where are all of the other places where this brand can live?’” he said. “Maybe it’s recording an album and printing it on the back of a magazine, or maybe it’s creating a fragrance that we sell in stores and online.” Today’s media companies are facing an uphill battle to diversify revenues through events or products as ad sales continue to dwindle; Esquire owner Hearst laid off more than 40 employees last year and recorded a 2% fall in profits earlier this year. “The reason why we do brand licensing programs like this is to build touch points with the public, with the reader, with the shoppers outside of the immediate Hearst content universe. That creates this lovely flywheel that comes back to our content world,” said Angela Kim, senior director of licensing at Hearst. Esquire’s other licensed products include jewelry, which has been sold at Macy’s for years. Fragrance is an especially timely terrain for Esquire, given the rise in the young male fragrance consumer — the magazine’s prime audience. “Evan,” the 22-year-old influencer known as Fragrance Knowledge and with close to 1 million followers on TikTok, shared a sponsored post promoting the Esquire x Michael Malul launch at the end of last month. Ashton Kirkland, aka Gents Scents, also reviewed the quartet for his 480,000 YouTube subscribers earlier this month. Time will tell if companies like Cirque du Soleil or Esquire will have a Comme des Garçons x Monocle level hit by satisfying both commercial interests and discerning fragrance fans. But lest you think the Hellman’s mayo perfume or Deuxmoi fragrance is a sign we’ve reached a saturation point, Imaginary Authors’ Meyer said we’re only just getting started. “We’re barely scratching the surface of making perfumes even more engaging,” he said. { SOURCE: Glossy } ---------------------------------------------------------- Cirque Unveils the Awe-Inspiring Acts Debuting in ‘Auana' {Sep.27.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- 'Auana, the first resident show in Hawai’i for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, features dynamic acts inspired by the islands’ rich culture, and will open exclusively at the new OUTRIGGER Theatre at OUTRIGGER Waikiki eachcomber Hotel. Additional tickets are now on sale for performances starting December 5, 2024 leading up to the world premiere on December 17, 2024. Unbound by the constraints of reality, ‘Auana both reimagines and pays homage to the magnificent Hawaiian spirit through Cirque du Soleil’s signature artistry and daring feats of athletic prowess. A riveting lineup of international and local talent delivers world-class acrobatics, outrageous comedy, mesmerizing hula, and captivating music in this lively celebration of Hawai’i. The compelling narrative of ‘Auana unfolds across eight chapters, each telling a distinct Hawaiian story. The opening act begins with a stunning interpretation of the Polynesian migration to the islands, as a high-flying super troupe of acrobats are propelled by voyaging swings, taking to the sky. Scenes shift to explore the “golden age of tourism” with a duo of foot jugglers using only their bodies to perform intricate flips and twists. An homage to Hina, goddess of the moon, will be represented by a graceful Lyra (aerial hoop) act before beloved tales such as the legend of Naupaka are brought to life by a highly skilled roller- skating duo that defy gravity with incredible spins, strength and flexibility. Paying homage to the birthplace of he’e nalu (surfing), an acrobatic balancing Rola Bola act exemplifies the skill and agility of surfers live on stage. The next energetic chapter combines acrobatics, dance, strength, playful swimming and diving in a water bowl to showcase O’ahu chiefess Mamala, a legendary surfrider and Mo’o who could alternate between the form of a beautiful woman and giant lizard. An artistic sand painter then celebrates the spirituality of the Hawaiian people and their connection to the land before ‘Auana comes to a close with the red-hot Wheel of Life act, a daring acrobatic portrayal of ‘alae ‘ula birds and their role in the mythical origins of fire. “Our collective—as a group of artists, designers and cultural creatives—has brought a fantastical and otherworldly journey to life through the songs, stories and traditions of our Hawai?i, with heart- racing performances descended directly from the heroes and luminaries of Hawaiian traditions,” said Aaron J. Sala, Creative Cultural Producer. “For so long, we have held ‘Auana close to the chest and we are thrilled to share this project with Hawai’i and beyond thanks to the grandeur of Cirque du Soleil.” The unprecedented debut adds to the legendary genealogy of Waikiki entertainment, bringing revelry right to the heart of this world- famous wahi pana (storied place) at the OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. The home for ‘Auana will be a custom-designed, intimate theater space, seating 784 guests. As two brands committed to constant innovation, this collaboration is inspired by a shared respect for creativity and a reverence for the natural world. Celebrating The Macallan’s 200 Year Anniversary, Harmony Vibrant Oak (available in domestic retail) and Harmony Guardian Oak (exclusively available in global travel retail) reflect the brand’s expertise and mastery of wood and have been designed in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil to tell The Macallan’s oak story in an creative and unique way. The fourth edition in the series celebrates The Macallan’s rich history with oak, which runs through every facet of the single malt Scotch whisky. The Macallan’s exceptional sherry seasoned oak casks are the single greatest contributor to the outstanding quality, distinctive aromas and flavours. Each cask is crafted to precise specifications, a process that takes around five years, delivering up to 80 percent of the flavour and 100 percent of the natural colour. Vibrant Oak has been matured in a combination first fill American and second fill sherry seasoned oak casks, while Guardian Oak has been matured predominantly in a combination of first fill European and second fill sherry seasoned oak casks. Through the two exceptional whiskies, the key differences between wood types are showcased and how the oak itself, and its origins, play an important role in creating different flavours. For this edition of the Harmony Collection, oak chippings – a by- product created while making oak casks for The Macallan – were repurposed and used in the presentation box and the bottle labels. Diane Stuart, Whisky Maker at The Macallan said: “Oak plays such an important role in the colour and flavour of The Macallan and bringing it to life through our packaging is incredibly inspirational. Vibrant Oak and Guardian Oak, provided an opportunity to select the casks that deliver the classic characteristics of our two key wood types, sherry seasoned American oak and sherry seasoned European oak casks, showcasing the differences these wood types deliver.” The releases are closely tied to Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT, an immersive experience that premiered at The Macallan Estate earlier this year. Inspired by Scottish heritage, it introduces Ayla, the daughter of a whisky maker, and Davonna, a fierce protector of the Highlands. Ayla seeks to recreate a unique shade of red tied to the memory of her father, while Davonna guides her towards a noble destiny. In her quest, Ayla delves into the history of The Macallan and discovers the vital importance of connecting with the natural world. The journey culminates in an audience experience centred around an oak tree, unveiling this fourth release in the Harmony Collection. The Macallan Harmony Collection is a limited annual release series that embraces the re-use of organic materials in its packaging, creating beauty from materials at the end of their natural lives. The outer pack for Harmony Collection Vibrant Oak has been designed with a lively and energetic gold colour and a beautiful illustration of a character from Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT – Ayla – is intricately intertwined with the branches of an American oak tree. The tree represents the whisky maturing in sherry seasoned American oak casks and the design incorporates peacock feathers, highlighting The Macallan’s natural colour. On the Harmony Collection Guardian Oak pack, an illustration of Davonna – another key figure from Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT – is featured within the branches of a European oak tree, with the latter symbolising the whisky maturing in sherry seasoned European oak casks. The colours represent Davonna’s character, engrained with vibrant purples hues, symbolising wisdom and maturity. Both designs capture the importance of the connection between the natural world and human experience, with the life and wonder that blooms when humans are “in harmony with nature”. The three previous Harmony Collection releases include a series of collaborations – the first brought to life the long standing partnership with Spain’s Roca brothers bringing together the flavours of chocolate and whisky; the second a sensorial journey through the wonderful world of coffee, drawing on the skill and expertise of five experts and the third, a collaboration with Stella and Mary McCartney celebrating the lands of Scotland. The Harmony Collection Vibrant Oak and Guardian Oak will be available to purchase from The Macallan, subject to availability and location. An obsession with quality and craftsmanship is the hallmark of The Macallan. The outstanding quality and distinctive character of each whisky is influenced by exceptional oak casks seasoned with sherry wine – a commitment to natural colour underpinned by mastery. Now, one of the final references to it is gone too. Siren’s Cove Boulevard, the main entrance road to TI, was officially renamed to Mystère Dreams Avenue on Monday in honor of Cirque du Soleil’s production ”Mystère” — the longest-running show on the Strip with 14,000 shows since 1993 and one of the first Cirque shows to return post-COVID. The name change was proposed back in April by TI’s owner Phil Ruffin to honor the show, but first needed approval from Clark County. One unique feature of the new sign is that it’s now one of the only street signs in Las Vegas to have an accent symbol over the “e,” the Review-Journal reported in April. This isn’t the first time the street has changed names. Before becoming Siren’s Cove, the street was named Buccaneer Bay Boulevard for the hotel-casino’s pirate-themed show on the Strip, which ran from 1993 to 2003. Mike Newquist, president of the Resident Shows Division and Affiliate Shows Division for Cirque du Soleil, said at the street’s unveiling that the sign is “a testament to the show’s enduring influence.” “We sincerely appreciate our partners at Treasure Island for their continued support over the years and look forward to many more.” { SOURCE: Las Vegas Review-Journal } ---------------------------------------------------------- CDS x Aléo: The Second Edition for eight student-athletes {Oct.09.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- The collaboration between Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group and the Aléo Foundation continued today by showcasing the journeys of eight student-athletes working in a discipline related to circus arts. Four gymnasts, two artistic swimmers, one diver and one figure skater received a $4,000 scholarship and lifetime services from the Aléo Foundation. Through this partnership, Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group completed its two-year $80,000 investment in scholarships and services for selected student-athletes. The skills acquired by these athletes make them ideal candidates for the job market. Recognizing this unique added value, Cirque du Soleil has positioned itself over time as an employer of high-caliber athletes, both in the spotlight and on its behind-the-scenes teams. “There’s a natural link between high-level student-athletes and Cirque du Soleil. The young people we recognize through our scholarship program with the Aléo Foundation are already experts in terms of discipline, rigor, perfectionism and the quest for that perfect moment. They are a step ahead when it comes to making the leap into the professional market, and for us, they’re sought-after collaborators.” -Nicolas Panet-Raymond, Global Head of Safety, Health and Sustainability at Cirque du Soleil “The partnership between the Aléo Foundation and Cirque du Soleil fits perfectly with our mission and objectives. The Aléo Foundation works to provide its scholarship recipients with opportunities that enable them to achieve their dreams in every sphere of their lives. Joining forces with an employer of choice, a pride of Quebec on the international stage, which recognizes the exceptional character of student-athletes as employees and vectors of excellence, is a golden opportunity to offer even more to our recipients”. -Patricia Demers Executive Director of the Aléo Foundation Recipients of the 2024 Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group Scholarship Program Éloïse Bélanger – Diving 30 years old – Montreal (Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie) $4000 – 1st Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group Scholarship, 3rd Aléo Foundation Scholarship o) Gold medallist at the Winter Canadian Championships, 2023. o) After earning a B.A. with a major in economics from the University of California, she is currently pursuing a law degree at the Université de Montréal. Kicking off the unveiling ceremony was Treasure Island’s Executive Director of Entertainment Operations, Paul Reams, who spoke to the impact of one of the longest lasting resident productions to date, followed by Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, who highlighted the significance of this milestone for the Las Vegas community. The fun continued when Mystère performers helped unveil the new sign with Mystère’s very own Red Bird perched on top. Mike Newquist, President of the Resident Shows Division and Affiliate Shows Division also expressed his gratitude at the unveiling. “On behalf of the Cirque du Soleil team, we are extremely thankful to continue being part of Treasure Island’s lasting legacy. The installation of ‘Mystère Dreams Ave’ is a testament to the show’s enduring influence. We sincerely appreciate our partners at Treasure Island for their continued support over the years and look forward to many more.” The original must-see Cirque du Soleil production fuses high-energy acrobatics with evocative choreography all set to the thunderous rhythms of the Taïko drums. Recently surpassing 14,000 shows Mystère continues to inspire both new audiences and longtime fans. They were joined by Neil Dorward, the show’s director, who brought them on stage and shared exciting details about this spectacular production. “‘Auana is Cirque du Soleil’s first resident show in Hawaii, and we’ve worked closely with an incredible team of Native Hawaiian creatives to bring it to life,” Dorward said. The team includes cultural creative producer Dr. Aaron Sal?, costume design consultant Manaola Yap, and choreographer Kumu Hula Hiwa Vaughan. “Their guidance helped us create a show that entertains audiences while telling meaningful stories inspired by Hawaii’s rich culture.” The show will feature eight chapters, each centered around a distinct Hawaiian story. Spectacular acts include acrobats on voyaging swings representing Polynesian migration, an aerial hoop performance inspired by Hina, goddess of the moon, and a balancing Rola Bola artist portraying He‘e nalu (surfing). One of the most anticipated acts, M? mala, combines acrobatics, dance, and swimming to tell the legendary story of a chiefess who can transform between a woman and a lizard. “We’ve woven these acts together with live local music to guide the audience through a journey that honors Hawaii’s traditions while delivering the magic Cirque du Soleil is known for,” Dorward explained. As part of the OUTRIGGER family, Cirque du Soleil has been proud to support PRIDE initiatives around the world, including in Las Vegas and Orlando. Dorward emphasized the company’s commitment to diversity, saying, “Our differences make us unique. With over 4,200 employees globally, representing 83 nationalities and speaking 40 different languages, Cirque du Soleil actively celebrates inclusion in both our performances and workplace.” { SOURCE: KHON Channel 2 } ---------------------------------------------------------- Cirque du Soleil Investor Hein Park Explores Stake Sale {Oct.19.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- Hein Park Capital Management is exploring the sale of its stake in Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, the company known for its live shows in Las Vegas and elsewhere, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The investment firm, led by Courtney Carson, is working with advisers who have reached out to prospective buyers of its roughly 15% stake, said some of the people, who requested anonymity as the information is private. Some of the contacted parties have expressed interest in acquiring the company in entirety, said some of the people, but Cirque isn’t for sale, other people with knowledge of the matter said. A transaction for Hein Park’s stake, which other minority investors may elect to participate in, could give the company an equity value of $2 billion or more, one of the people said. “Cirque du Soleil is not for sale and we are very excited about our prospects for the future,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement. “We cannot comment on efforts by some minority equity holders that may be looking to monetize their positions due to individual circumstances.” Representatives for Hein Park declined to comment. Lenders, which included Catalyst Capital Group and Eldridge’s CBAM Partners, seized control of Cirque du Soleil in 2020 after its operations ground to a halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the company declared bankruptcy. The business, led by CEO Stephane Lefebvre, said last year that it closed a $550 million term loan to refinance existing debt and obtained a new $100 million revolver, moves that the company said helped deleverage its balance sheet. { SOURCE: Mint } ---------------------------------------------------------- The CHRO of Cirque du Soleil talks about finding comfort in the ‘gray zone’ and rebuilding the circus empire {Oct.22.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- CHROs are everywhere—even the circus. Marie-Noëlle Gagnon, the CHRO for Cirque du Soleil, isn’t your typical people management executive. Overseeing around 4,300 employees working in 48 active shows across more than 80 countries, she manages a unique workforce that includes both corporate staffers and performing artists. Although the artists are hired through a separate department, Gagnon plays a part in the experience of all workers. She first stepped into the role just three weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown, as live entertainment, along with the rest of the world, came to a stop. The show couldn’t go on, and as a result, around 95% of performers and artists were laid off. But Cirque is back on track with its traveling and residency shows, and Ganon is determined to keep its culture alive. Fortune spoke with Gagnon about what it took to revive the legacy circus after the past few tumultuous years, her unusual responsibilities, and what she looks for in Cirque talent. This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity. Q. Cirque du Soleil was forced to close down during the COVID pandemic. How did you work on bringing employees back when shows started once more? We all had a common purpose. It was very clear what we had to achieve, our North Star was clear. We need to bring back all our shows. For the artists, it was easier to convince them to come back. Because when you work for Soleil, it’s major league. So we were able to rehire or hire artists quite quickly. We had to also rehire or hire our technicians, and there was a real labor shortage at the time with the pandemic, and the entertainment industry was very difficult. Then people were asking us when we were recruiting, “Can you guarantee that Cirque du Soleil will not close again?” And the answer was, “We can’t. We don’t have any crystal balls.” So we really had to be very transparent, and we said, “We cannot guarantee you anything, but wouldn’t it be a great story to be part of the whole relaunch of Cirque du Soleil shows? Come and do this with us.” We were very intentional in our actions. We had a very specific plan to rebuild the entire Cirque du Soleil talent team one after the other. I had to recruit every single one of my leadership team members. And what I’ve done is basically I said, “Look, I don’t know what the future looks like. Hopefully fans will be back, but we’re gonna be creating fantastic shows again. Let’s do this together, and let’s have fun while we’re doing it.” And it paid off. Fans were back, millions of tickets were sold. Q. How did you rebuild culture after years of being apart? Each show will have their own microculture. We have an overarching culture at Cirque with strong values, but the approach was different, and my philosophy post-COVID at Cirque was: “one size fits none.” From a corporate standpoint, I decided to not put any mandatory number of days at the office. It’s really about empowerment of the manager, so I left the entire freedom to the manager to decide what is best for their team. This is what I found to be the best strategy post- pandemic, making our managers accountable for their microculture. This is what really makes a difference in the day to day of an employee. Q. What responsibilities do you have that the average CHRO doesn’t have? What is quite unique with Cirque is the whole immigration part, because it’s thousands of visas and work permits that we have to deliver on an annual basis. You have visas for artists, cast, crew management, also what we call the “accompanying members,” because some of our artists, cast and crew, can travel with their partners and family. When you think about the touring shows, these are the ones that are touring from one city and one country to another. So every time we enter a new country we have to make sure everybody has the right to be and work in this country. I’m also in charge of everything that is health and safety. We’re doing human performance at its best, so we will never compromise anything from a health and safety standpoint. Q. What does it look like to monitor the health and safety of artists? When you think about the artists that are up in the air doing magical things, first they need to be aware of what are the safety protocols if something bad happens. So everybody gets very tight training on what to do in emergency situations. To make sure that we are actually following protocols, we have very tight KPIs that we are monitoring on a regular basis, and we report up to the board all our health and safety metrics. We’re measured on health and safety. So training is super important, and sometimes when you have what we call “near miss,” we put in place a corrective action plan so everything is tracked. Everything is recorded, and we need to make sure it will not happen again. We need to work also from a prevention standpoint, because of the injuries that can happen when they perform. So we need to make sure [the performers] are in top shape. So there is a team of people surrounding our artists: coaching, performance medicine, physical therapists. Q. Are there any pain points in your role as CHRO at Cirque? For me, it’s the whole HR technology aspect. I wish we would have more tools to help make better decisions and quicker decisions. Nowadays, you can no longer rely on your intuition to make the best decision. It’s all about facts and data, especially when you are exploring uncharted territory. Making sure that we’re using technology to boost business performance will definitely help the employee experience. It is something that in the coming years we’ll be investing in more and more. It’s on my wish list, HR technology. Q. What do you look for when hiring someone for Cirque? You need to be open minded, you need to have a strong agility, and you need to be very comfortable with the gray zone. When we were relaunching our shows, we were rethinking, “Okay, now what? What does the next 20 years of Cirque look like? What does the future of HR look like?” To me, ambiguity is kind of exciting in a sense of everything is possible. The world is your oyster. Let’s put some clarity around what is gray. { SOURCE: Fortune Magazine } ---------------------------------------------------------- CDS and VIDANTAWORLD Unveil a New Vacation Package {Oct.29.2024} ---------------------------------------------------------- In collaboration with VidantaWorld, Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group is proud to announce Cirque du Soleil Dream Escape — an exclusive vacation package at VidantaWorld Riviera Maya. Set to debut in November 2025 at VidantaWorld’s BON Luxury Theme Park in Nuevo Vallarta, LUDÕ marks Cirque du Soleil’s monumental return to water-themed productions, following the legendary O in Las Vegas, and promises to be the most epic water dinner show ever created. LUDÕ—from the Latin for “I play”—is more than a show—it’s a fusion of art and technology, a spectacle where water becomes a narrative force, enveloping audiences in an aquatic realm that celebrates both the power of nature and the heights of human imagination. Set in a cutting-edge, 696-seat custom theater, water flows through every aspect of the story, with mesmerizing visuals, gravity-defying performances, and revolutionary technology designed to create an experience as dynamic as water itself. LUDÕ will feature an innovative gourmet dining experience and showcase the custom theater’s state-of-the-art features, advanced acoustics, and spectacular architecture. The intimate theater, surrounded by immersive aquatic elements and equipped with groundbreaking technology, will allow each performance to seamlessly integrate water as a narrative and visual element. Since its inception, Cirque du Soleil and Grupo Vidanta’s partnership has redefined expectations, blending art, technology, and hospitality to elevate the concept of immersive experiences. As VidantaWorld continues to grow, LUDÕ will be a flagship attraction, highlighting the scope and ambition of this unparalleled destination. With two spectacular destinations located in Mexico—VidantaWorld Nuevo Vallarta and VidantaWorld Riviera Maya, and VidantaWorld’s ELEGANT Ultra Mega Yacht, VidantaWorld encompasses a wide range of vacation experiences that span from luxury theme parks, high-end hotels, and global voyages to world-class shows, sporting events, and concerts by global superstars. “The creation of LUDÕ by Cirque du Soleil at VidantaWorld is more than a milestone; it’s a bold statement of Mexico’s capacity to innovate and captivate on a global stage,” said Iván Chávez, executive vice president of Grupo Vidanta. “LUDÕ is designed to inspire awe and to show the world that Mexico is not only a top destination but a leader in the future of entertainment. We are beyond thrilled to invite audiences to experience this unparalleled journey through water, creativity, and the boundless spirit of VidantaWorld.” "We’re thrilled to expend our partnership with Grupo Vidanta by bringing a spectacular new show to Nuevo Vallarta, inviting fans from around the globe to experience Cirque du Soleil like never before. This custom-built theater is a masterpiece of innovation, providing the ultimate canvas to showcase our boundless creativity. This new chapter not only celebrates our long-term collaboration but also reaffirms our shared commitment to redefining the future of entertainment and luxury," said Daniel Lamarre, Executive Vice- Chairman of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group. “This show embodies everything that makes our partnership with Grupo Vidanta so rewarding,” said Michel Laprise, Show Writer & Director of Cirque du Soleil LUDÕ. “LUDÕ harnesses the limitless qualities of water, a medium that captures memory, transcends gravity, and allows us to create a dynamic, dreamlike journey unlike any other. Through this innovative collaboration, we are able to invite audiences into an experience that celebrates nature, wonder, and artistry in a whole new way.” Audiences will be captivated by a dazzling array of acts celebrating the fluidity and grandeur of water. The show features stunning aerial performances that blend strength and grace, and dynamic group acts showcasing precision, teamwork, and rhythm. Interactive elements, including acrobatics on a net platform, invite guests to immerse themselves in the experience, making each moment an artistic tribute to the harmony of nature. Each act in LUDÕ encourages the audience to explore a world where the boundaries between elements are effortlessly transcended. The opening in November 2025 will officially kick off over 300 planned shows per year, solidifying LUDÕ as a must-see event for luxury travelers and entertainment enthusiasts alike. On this album, the music of ECHO transcends traditional genres, blending 15 eclectic tracks that draw inspiration from pop, electronic, vocal, and classical influences. Each composition is richly layered, reflecting the complex relationship between humanity and the natural world. Created by contemporary composers Jade Pybus, Andy Theakstone, and Hugo Montecristo - who is renowned for works like Viva Elvis, Messi10, Drawn to Life, and FUZION - the music and sound design of ECHO are integral to shaping the show's emotional journey. The music of the show underscores the daring acts taking place on stage, supporting and elevating the jaw-dropping acrobatics of ECHO. These songs play a pivotal role in enhancing the storytelling and creating a powerful experience. In a first for Cirque du Soleil, all of the band also sings live in addition to playing their instruments. Among them are three lead voices, who, along with the rest of the band, weave a vibrant and intricate tapestry of harmonies. “ECHO has captivated audiences for over a year, quickly establishing itself thanks to its distinct aesthetic, innovative storytelling, and contemporary music. In response to overwhelming requests from our fans to experience the music beyond the live performance, this release demonstrates Cirque du Soleil's ongoing dedication to deepening our connection with our audience. We are committed to offering new ways for fans to engage with our artistry and bring it into their everyday lives”, stated Anne Belliveau, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group. The soundtrack lasts for 1 hour and 15 seconds and while it generally includes most major themes found in the show (in order of appearance), there are still a few missing. Alas, this is nothing new, as all Cirque du Soleil albums have some musical cues missing from its album. But with a run time of just over an hour, I'm sure we could have fit "Extraction" on there. Especially since this was an all-digital release! As such there doesn't appear to be a catalog number, UPC, EIN, or other defining marks to share. However, Cirque du Soleil did release a few notes about the creation of the album... o) Composers - POLYPHONIA (Jade Pybus & Andy Theakstone) - Hugo Montecristo o) ECHO Band - Sarah Bowler: cello in A Dark Cloud - Anna Follia Jordan: violin / vocals - Edyta Krzemień: Lead Female vocalist - Agata Kruszewska: drums / vocals - Michael Lieberman: Band leader / viola - Lizzy Munson: cello / vocals - Jonathan Stombres: Lead male vocals and mallets - Alex Wignall: keyboards / vocals o) Additional vocals/drums - Hannah Cartwright: additional vocals - Jonjo Grisdale: additional vocals - Lemuel Knights: additional vocals - Jade Pybus: additional vocals - Andy Theakstone: additional drums - Luke Williams: additional vocals o) Orchestra - Violins: Julie Triquet, Jean Sébastien Roy, Marie-Josée Arpin, Christian Prévost, Ariane Lajoie, Daniel Godin, Mélanie Bélair, Solange Bouchard, Lizann Gervais, Edith Pedneault, Chantal Bergeron, Arianne Bresse - Violas: Ligia Paquin, Sofia Gentile, Bojana Milinov, Madeleine Messier, Lana Tomlin - Cellos: Sheila Hannigan, Annie Gadbois, Carla Antoun, Tim Halliday, Marie-Eve Bock - Doublebass: Yanick Chenevert, Marc Denis, Richard Capolla - Flute: Jean-Philippe Tanguay - Clarinets: Simon Aldrich, Zaven Zakarian - Oboe: Élise Poulin - Conductor: Adam Johnson - Choir: Choeur du Plateau - Music Supervision: Jean-Sébastien Giard (Troublemakers) o) Production Credits: - Live band recordings at Maze Studios (Atlanta) - Orchestral recordings at Studio Piccolo (Montréal) - Mixed & Edited by Marc Bell & Thierry Angers - Mastered by Richard Addison, Trillium Sound Mastering - Maze Studio Engineers: Tomas Uribe assisted by Sophia Trautman - Piccolo Studio Engineers: François Arbour assisted by Gabriel Dubuc - Album Executive Producer: Anne Belliveau - Project Manager: Jocelyne Perrier - Additional recordings at Polyphonia Studio, London, England You can stream the album on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/6Qjsb5AloGzQ5i4pteO2CC It is also available on Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/echo/1777137720 And Amazon Music: https://www.amazon.com/music/player/albums/B0DM75YXLB It is no doubt available to stream and purchase on other sites (as it is available for purchase in the iTunes Store and Amazon Music Store). Alas, this new, bespoke soundtrack marks the second release under the global recording agreement between BMG and Cirque du Soleil. (The first release was the Soundblazers soundtrack, of course.) Recently, the artistic entertainment company announced that BMG would serve as the label for future Cirque du Soleil albums, manage the company’s publishing catalog, and collaborate on the creation of new songs and releases. On the heels of ECHO's release, on December 6, 2024, Cirque du Soleil released "40 Years Under the Sun: The Best of Cirque du Soleil" compilation album. This album, which features 18 cuts from across its vast musical catalog, is a long one... running 83 minutes and 15 seconds... but it's bound to disappoint most Cirque du Soleil fans because of what it doesn't have, more than what it does have. Here's what's on the album... 01: "Alegria" ............... (5:48) - From "Alegría" 02: "Pokinoi" ............... (4:45) - From "Saltimbanco" 03: "Pageant" ............... (7:43) - From "Alegria: In a New Light" Immediately, many fans recognize there's nothing from Cirque Reinvente or Nouvelle Experience (which, okay, there's only so much you can put on an album and tracks from these shows were on all the previous compilation albums), nor from La Nouba, Varekai, Zumanity, Wintuk, ZED, ZAIA, Believe, IRIS, Zarkana, Toruk, Luzia, or Paramour. While I expected some of these albums/shows NOT to be represented in a new Best Of, I'm still shocked that there's nothing from La Nouba, Varekai, ZED or Luzia. In either case, "40 Years Under the Sun: The Best of Cirque du Soleil" is available on... - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/08FDI6RFNVLsn0Kita1RKl - Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/pt/album/40-years-under-the- sun-the-best-of-cirque-du-soleil/1779601225 - Amazon Music: https://www.amazon.com/music/player/albums/B0DNYBWK5C And is, no doubt, available to stream and purchase on other sites (as it is available for purchase in the iTunes Store and Amazon Music Store). ======================================================================= COPYRIGHT AND DISCLAIMER ======================================================================= Fascination!
